Because they are fitted behind the teeth, lingual braces are a great option for people who don’t want to worry about remembering to put their removable aligners (Invisalign) back in, but still want a lower profile look for their braces.
The biggest advantage of lingual braces over Invisalign aligners is that while they're essentially invisible, they’re not removable like Invisalign aligners are.
This may seem like a strange assertion, given the fact that one of the advantages of Invisalign aligners is supposed to be that they are removable, because his makes it easier to eat, brush and floss while undergoing treatment.
But ultimately, what constitutes an 'advantage' depends on the person undergoing treatment.
Removable aligners are great for people who feel certain they will keep their aligners in despite tightness, pain or discomfort, and who won't simply forget about them due to absentmindedness.
But if you think you're likely to remove your aligners when they become uncomfortable, or forget to put them back in frequently or for extended periods of time, then removable aligners are probably not the best choice for you.
Try to be honest with yourself about this. Everybody is different!
Many of our patients aren’t sure they can be as consistent as necessary with removable aligners. Lingual braces are a fantastic alternative for these people, because they are still essentially invisible, but are not removable.
